Our brave and resilient Henry needed to undergo eye muscle surgery in June. We brought him to the ophthalmologist for what we assumed was just a lazy eye that could be corrected by glasses or an eye patch; but found out that he had "exotropia" of both eyes. This meant that the eye muscles were very strong and were pulling his eyes outward. This needed to be corrected surgically or it could become a permanent issue. We were lucky in that his vision remained 20/20 in both eyes, and that his brain had not been only using one of his eyes to see.
Mickey Mouse was visiting Mott Hospital the morning of surgery, so Henry got to meet him in pre-op. Surgery was successful, and we were able to rejoin Henry in post-op. He unfortunately had a hard time waking up from the anesthesia and was not exactly acting like his usual self (he was quite angry and combative). It was scary for his parents, but this eventually wore off an we got our sweet, cuddly little guy back and were able to take him home the same day in his cool new sunglasses.
