1/2 birthday!

It is unbelievable that Henry is already 6 months old! He now has 2 bottom teeth and is enjoying some solid foods, including pureed sweet potatoes and bananas. He likes these new foods so much that we are even able to mix in his not so favorite iron fortified rice cereal without him noticing.

Henry had his 6 month Dr.'s appointment today and it was confirmed that he is tall for his age as we suspected: 28 inches in length (93rd %tile) and 17lb 8oz (52nd %tile).

Rice cereal

Henry had his first tastes of "solid" food today. As you can see from the photos, he was not a big fan of rice cereal. The majority of the food ended up in his bib or on the floor.

Where's Henry?

Henry has been spending a lot of time playing with his GIANT dragon toy lately. He likes to chew on the face or paws, ultimately hiding himself under the stuffed animal that is a least double his size.

Henry was also proudly representing "the D" at the St. Paul Farmers Market this morning.

Babies! 5.5 - 6.5 months old

We got together with 4 of the 6 other babies from our mom and baby group this past weekend (arranged from youngest to oldest, left to right, in the middle photo). It's funny to think that Henry has known Annie, Pete, John & Will since he was 3 weeks old! It's even more amazing how much they have all changed over the past few months.

First tooth

We have had a relatively long week following our traveling fiasco and resettling back into work and the daycare routine. Henry has unfortunately not been sleeping as well, waking up several times rather than his usual just once overnight. We were not sure if this was due to the recent change in his routine with traveling, or if he was going through a growth spurt, or if he was maybe not getting enough food and we should be starting solids. But dad figured out the answer to the sleep problem this morning while I was at work when he realized Henry has his first tooth cutting through the bottom gum!

Henry finds it absolutely hilarious when his dad does silly things or makes silly noises, so I was trying to get some giggles out of him this evening by practicing my karate chops. I didn't get quite the response his father does, but I was glad to know he finds me funny too.

Family fun over the fourth

We traveled to metro Detroit over the fourth of July holiday weekend to celebrate cousin Oliver's christening with family. We were grateful that Henry did fantastic on his first flight experience.

While in Detroit we got in some good cousin time with Oliver...

Oma & Opa time...

Aunt Jessica and Uncle Tony time...

And even unexpectedly got to see Grandpa Jim because of our return flight getting canceled on Monday (after spending 5 hours in the airport) and rescheduled for Tuesday. Grandpa had been in Memphis meeting cousin Mae.

First week of daycare

After 3 1/2 weeks of free, in-home daycare (thank you Grandma, Oma & Opa!); Henry started "real" (and much more costly) daycare at the University of Minnesota this week. Henry handled the transition much better than his mother did. On his first day he took naps, he took bottles from the teachers and was even smiling when I picked him up!

We are given a report as to how Henry did each day at daycare, and during the first week Henry: "enjoyed watching all of the children moving around him, enjoyed kicking his legs and waving his arms outside on the porch, enjoyed feeling the breeze go through his hair outside, and enjoyed watching his friends doing water play - he would smile every time they splashed water."
